Alcohol....Let's talk about it.
Show Notes

Topics like this can tend to strike a chord with some people. A good question to ask if you’re one of those people with a chord stricken, is to ask yourself a simple question:

Why do I get irritated when I read this?

The thing about humans, myself included, is we tend to confuse our convictions with offense and take what we perceive as an offense and immediately go on the defense.

Again, if this is you, slow your roll for just a few seconds and ask the question:

Why am I defending this so much?

We all have our struggles, and they come in many forms, but this one is common one and vice that strangles peoples’ lives.

10 LOGICAL HEALTH REASONS TO LIMIT/AVOID ALCOHOL

  1. Damages the Liver: The liver is responsible for removing toxins from the body, including alcohol. When a person drinks too much, the liver can become overwhelmed, leading to liver inflammation, scarring and eventually, liver disease.
  2. Increases Risk of Cancer: Studies have shown that alcohol consumption can increase the risk of certain types of cancer, including breast, liver, colon, and throat cancer.
  3. Weakens the Immune System: Alcohol weakens the immune system, making it more difficult for the body to fight off infections and diseases.
  4. Impairs Brain Function: Alcohol has a negative impact on the brain, affecting a person’s ability to think, react, and make decisions. It can also lead to memory loss and cognitive decline.
  5. Causes Cardiovascular Issues: Regular alcohol consumption has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke.
  6. Leads to Depression and Anxiety: Alcohol is often used as a form of self-medication for mental health issues, but in reality, it can worsen symptoms of depression and anxiety.
  7. Increases Risk of Accidents: Alcohol impairs judgment and coordination, making it more likely for a person to have an accident, such as a car crash or fall.
  8. Can Cause Sexual Dysfunction: Alcohol can lead to erectile dysfunction in men and a decrease in sexual desire for both men and women.
  9. Affects Sleep: Drinking before bed can disrupt sleep patterns and lead to insomnia, leaving a person feeling tired and fatigued the next day.
  10. Adds Empty Calories: Alcohol contains empty calories, which means it provides energy but no nutritional value. This can lead to weight gain and an increased risk of obesity and other health problems.

In conclusion, there are many reasons why alcohol is unhealthy for you. From damaging the liver to affecting brain function and increasing the risk of accidents, it’s clear that moderation or elimination is key when it comes to alcohol consumption.

Probably the biggest reason that isn't listed is the area of relationships. Alcohol isn’t famous for enhancing relationships, but it is famous for destroying them. Relationships are what truly matter in life. In the end of our lives, something health related will always get us in the end. Whether it’s an organ failing or a cancer developing, we will all eventually pass away, but our relationships with others live on. Make sure alcohol isn’t fracturing and destroying relationships with the people you love.

If you’re concerned about the impact that alcohol is having on your health, it’s important to speak to a doctor or healthcare professional.
